ImgArchive does not allow direct in order to protect images from harm, intentionally or unintendedly. Instead, creates a new copy for viewing or editing from the Digital Vault. It is the job of the Workspace to contain these working copies of images.
The Workspace contains working copies of images in the same structure as the Digital Vault. This structure contains images in date order in a set of defined folders in three levels. The first is the year the image was taken, the next level is the day it was taken. The last is the Image folder that contains the working copies.
Viewing images
Then images are imported, by default a working copy will be generated and placed in the Workspace. However a working copy can also be generated using the get command. This command will generate a working copy providing a copy has not been generated before. This command will protect any edits already carried out on an image. See get command.
Editing Images
Images that are made available for edit are controlled. Then you want to edit an image or images you will check it out using the checkout command.
That tells ImgArchive that you intend to edit the image. In checking out the image in ImgArchive can only be done once. This can prevent you or other people over-writing changes to an image currently being worked on by check-in the image out again.
Once you have completed your edits you can check the image back in to the Archive. When this is done if changes have been made ImgArchive will create a new version of the image.
