Most of the normal activities carried out in the management of the archive follows a pretty standard set of orchestrated and repeatable patterns. This in management circles is called a work flow.
There a workflow process is a series of sequential tasks that are carried out based on user-defined rules or conditions, to execute a business process. It is a collection of data, rules, and tasks that need to be completed to achieve a certain business outcome.
The most identifiable are as follows:
The Import Work flow - This is getting images into the archive.
The Edit Work flow - This is the flow of activities used to edit an image or set of images and get those images back into the archive as a new version.
The Export Work flow - Used to select images for export (copied out) of the archive.
The Catalogue Work flow - Used to make images available in the required catalogues serviced by the archive.
The Maintenance Work flow - used to maintain the archive effectiveness.
